Launch vehicle

The rocket or launcher used to put a satellite in orbit.

LCD

Liquid crystal display

A flat-panel screen technology that uses liquid crystals to create images. It is based on the display technology used in digital watches and calculators.

LEO

Low-earth orbit of up to 800 km above the earth. This orbit is used by a constellation of satellites to provide a world wide mobile phone service.

Line amplifier

Amplifier used in a middle of a network to reamplify a signal.

LNB

Low noise block

A small down converter mounted at the focal point of a satellite dish. It converts and amplifies high-frequency satellite signals (usually in GHz) into low frequency ones (usually in MHz).

Low Band

A band used for satellite transmission (from 10.70 GHz to 11.70 GHz).
